Afternoon Tea and a Crazy Idea

Changes don’t have to be big to be impactful, they can be incremental… 1% change over time adds up to a whole heap of difference.

We’d been thinking about moving to Cumbria for a while. Planning this big move for some years down the line. Life’s events brought this forward for us. It started with our mantra of “two dogs”, which described a life style living somewhere beautiful, where we could have dogs (two) and ducks.

For us, having a mantra is really powerful, our current mantra, is “big skies”. This means doing the things we enjoy and, where possible, saying no to the things we don’t.

Who would have thought that a 50th birthday present would have led us one step closer to our ‘big skies’.

It came on the back of a gorgeous Afternoon Tea at Augill Castle. Tummies full, and after happy conversations with a very warm and friendly Castle host, we buzzed our way back to our car. The initial idea of recommending Augill Castle to our Airbnb guests quickly morphed into something much bigger. The missing piece of our wellbeing dream… the idea of a Castle Retreat was born.

Over the past couple of years we’ve seen an increasing demand for training and coaching around mental health, wellbeing, and confidence. So, we had a growing sense that something was missing in our ability to support people to make a change in their lives… an amazing space large enough to share our passion with like-minded people.

As experienced Airbnb hosts, we know how to look after people. Our own homes have always been quirkily (and we’d like to think tastefully) decorated. Stepping into Augill Castle was like coming home.

Suddenly it seemed possible to be able to create something different, something special.  A weekend  in a gorgeous part of the world, in a unique castle, spending time on yourself. Time to rediscover your purpose, energy and passion. Time to relax, time to just be! Where you’d walk away with a  sense of calm, a sense of inner peace and a rumble in your tummy. Not the hunger for food type of rumble, but a hunger for life.

It’s amazing how quickly things can move when you talk to people who share your outlook on life, and we have to say that the Augill Castle ‘family’ were amazing in their capacity to see and share our vision. It was like watching an episode of Sherlock Holmes as all the pieces of the puzzle finally drop into place.
